A Rainy Day in Bar: What to Do and How to Get Around

Not every day on the Montenegrin coast is sunshine, and if you wake up to rain in Bar, it's not a wasted day, it just calls for a different plan.

Adjust the plan, don't cancel it

A rainy day is a genuinely good excuse to slow down. Beach plans and long walks along the promenade are obviously off, but Bar and the surrounding area still have plenty worth doing that doesn't depend on clear skies, a wander through Stari Bar's stone ruins actually has its own atmosphere in the rain, and a relaxed meal at a konoba is arguably better suited to a grey afternoon than a scorching one.

Getting around changes a bit

On a wet day, walking becomes less appealing and roads can be slower, so it's worth leaning more heavily on taxis than you might on a clear day, especially for anything you'd normally walk. Stari Bar's old town has a genuinely different mood under grey skies, quieter, more atmospheric, and the stone ruins hold up fine to a bit of weather, though the ground is uneven, so decent footwear still matters.

A slower, longer lunch at a local konoba is an easy way to turn a rained-out afternoon into a genuinely pleasant one, especially somewhere with a covered terrace looking out over the water.

Museums, churches, and indoor heritage sites around Bar and Stari Bar are a natural fit for a wet day, worth checking current opening hours before you head out.

If it's a full washout

If the forecast is a full day of rain rather than a passing shower, it can be worth treating the day as a genuine reset, a slower pace, a good meal, maybe planning the next day's itinerary instead of forcing outdoor plans that won't be enjoyable in the wet. Rain along this coast rarely lasts more than a day or two at a time, so a single adjusted day is usually all it takes.
