Bar to Budva Day Trip by Taxi

Budva is the closest of the big coastal names to Bar, and it's an easy, low-commitment day out. Old Town, a busy modern strip along the beach, and one of the most photographed views in Montenegro just down the coast, it's a good pick if you want a full day away without a long drive eating into it.

The drive

Bar to Budva is around 40 kilometers, and it's a straightforward drive along the coast road, usually somewhere between 45 minutes and an hour depending on the season and time of day. It's the shortest of the coastal day trips out of Bar, which makes it a good option if you'd rather have more time at the destination than in the car.

The road hugs the shoreline most of the way, with olive groves and small settlements on the inland side and the sea rarely out of view. In peak summer, this stretch of coast gets busy with holiday traffic, so a July or August afternoon can run a bit longer than the off-season estimate.

What's actually there

Budva's Old Town sits on a small rocky peninsula, walled and compact, with narrow stone streets that owe a lot to Venetian influence from the centuries when this coast was under Venice's control. It's smaller and, these days, considerably busier than Kotor's Old Town, since Budva has grown into Montenegro's main resort town, but the historic core itself is genuinely worth an hour or two of wandering, especially the citadel at the peninsula's tip with its views back over the rooftops.

Just south of town, the view most people actually come for: Sveti Stefan, the small fortified island connected to the mainland by a narrow strip of sand, its terracotta roofs stacked up above the water. It's a private resort now and not open for casual visits inside, but the view from the road above, particularly in late afternoon light, is one of the more recognizable images of the whole Montenegrin coast, and well worth the short detour on the way back.

What it costs

Being the shortest of the coastal runs, Budva is also the most affordable, generally landing somewhere around €45 to €55 one way under the intercity tariff that applies to trips outside Bar municipality. The exact figure always comes from the meter or the app estimate at time of booking, but that's a reasonable number to plan around.
