Bar is a genuinely low-key, safe town by most reasonable measures, but "safe" doesn't mean you shouldn't think ahead about how you're getting home after dark. Here's what's actually worth knowing about taxis at night in Bar municipality.

Book, don't hail

The most useful habit to build is booking through the app rather than trying to flag a car down on the street, especially late at night when fewer cars are circulating and you're less likely to just get lucky standing on a corner. How the night tariff works

Montenegro's taxi tariff system shifts at night and on public holidays, and it's worth understanding so the fare on the meter doesn't surprise you. During the day, an in-city trip runs on a 2.00 euro minimum with a 1.45 euro per-kilometer rate, on top of the 1.00 euro boarding charge. At night and on public holidays, that in-city per-kilometer rate rises to 1.75 euros, with the minimum staying at 2.00 euros. Suburban trips, the kind you'd take between towns like Bar and Sutomore, stay at the same rate day or night, a 5.00 euro minimum and 1.10 euro per kilometer, since the elevated night rate in this system is mainly about the in-town portion of a ride rather than the open road between towns.

Waiting time is billed at 0.20 euros per minute after the first three minutes free, which applies whether it's day or night, worth keeping in mind if you're asking a driver to wait outside somewhere for a few minutes.

None of this is a dramatic markup, but it's real, and knowing it ahead of time means the fare at the end of a night out is exactly what you expected rather than a surprise.

Basic etiquette

A few small things make late-night rides smoother for everyone. Have your pickup location as specific as you can, "outside the blue café on the corner" beats a vague pin near the general area, especially at night when street numbers can be hard to spot. If you're in a group, mention that when booking so the right car shows up. And if your night includes multiple stops, it's usually simpler and not meaningfully more expensive to book separate short rides than to ask one driver to wait through a long stretch of your evening, waiting time adds up the same way distance does.

Getting back to somewhere further out
